Finding a break into theatre and performance art can often be difficult - following a recent enquiry about volunteering we located the website 'Getintotheatre', http://www.getintotheatre.org/ - if you're 16-25 years of age and looking to get into theatre/performance as a career, check out this useful site.

Sandwell Advocacy have been in touch with us and are looking for volunteers in two specific areas within their project.  (1) Volunteer Trustees/Committee Members and (2) Volunteer Advocates, to work with clients in need of support and 'direction'. See Latest Opportunities below for details. Volunteering England have a website that explains the role of a trustee, check it out and see how you can make a difference as a volunteer trustee. Schools Mentoring Project - launch new display at Sainsbury's, Halesowen Street, Oldbury - the project recruits and trains mentors to work in local primary and secondary schools - interested; call Jean on 0121 544 8326. (19/07/07)

On Jobseekers Allowance and want to volunteer? Did you know that the 16 hour rule doesn't apply anymore? Volunteering England provide details about changes in the rules here and you can also download your own guide (in PDF format) here. We have a booklet produced by the Department of Work and Pensions detailing how each benefit is affected by the changes - if you visit us to find out more about volunteering and are on a state benefit please ask us for a free copy.


 Latest opportunities for volunteers

Sandwell Advocacy are based in Tipton and are urgently looking for Trustees/Management Committee volunteers - full support and training will be provided for this to assist in the development of the project and ensuring it meets the needs of local people referred to them for Advocacy support. Give us a call at your local Volunteer Centre on 0121 544 8326 for more information. Advoacacy also have opportunities for Volunteer Advocates to get directly involved in supporting people locally.  Questions/Queries

Q: I am signing on for Jobseekers Allowance through the Jobcentre. Can I still volunteer?
A: Yes, as long as you are actively seeking work and are available for work. There are no more time limits to the hours you can volunteer in the week - see Volunteering England's site about this.
